Comicking on Boards! Weeklies on Hiatus!

AHHHHHHHH
Taking a break from the weeklies to concentrate on hashing out this little story.

Well, story is kind of loose, this is more of a goofy adventure about nothing.

Expect some updates on this project soon!

Tsukino-Con 2014

Hamon!

I just came back from Tsukino-Con at the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island. I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised that under a rather unassuming venue, there was a group of folks subsisting on good will and hype.  It was also nice to explore a different scene, close enough but all the same different from the Vancouver crowd.

Heichou got no sleep
At my table I was doing the usual illustrating, even got a few commissions. Before they disappeared, I snapped a few pictures.

Unfortunately I could only do pencils, since I brought my inks but no white or correctional tape!

All in all, a good first run in the con circuit. All fired up to get some more stuff done, but first I gotta stretch the hands and make some time.

2014 Weeklies 3

Mosasaurus Pitfall!
Still working on action and stuff, drawing inspiration from the pulpy classics.

I can't draw water worth a damn. In colour, it's as simple as tweaking values on the surface with transparencies (I'm underselling it, it's a value puzzle), but in b/w monochrome ink, it's kinda rough.

Swing on, kiddo.

2014 Weeklies 2

Allosaurus Chase!
Still trying to iron out a proof of concept for my comic project. Hopefully I will have something more substantial than an idea soon.

This is basically a plot summary. Girl in jungle runs afoul of an allosaurus, hijinks ensue!

I'm having an issue with conveying motion. Why do George Morikawa, Yukito Kishiro and Paul Pelletier gotta be such a high benchmark, man... but I'm slowly getting the hang of it I think!

2014 Weeklies 1

It's a new year. I'm going to try again to push my skills to the limit; in drawing I find I only improve as I make myself force it. So look forward to a lot of dumb stuff on the weekend from here on out!
OM NOM NOM
I had a craving for spot prawns...which at the time of posting has yet to be sated -_-;

This is a character I'm going to be doing some work on as she's relatively easy to draw and has been stewing in my brain for a little while for a comic project. More as this develops

(OK, let's try this again) Number 11

Been a while, so here's a quickie.
Ambiguously brown?
This is mostly playing around with screen tones. I find that flat shading lacks a 'comicky' feeling to it so I hope to incorporate this into more of my work.

First piece of digital work in a while, I got a long ways to go. Join me on my journey to not sucking so hard!

Number 10

Holy crap have I been slacking off. Got no excuses really, just can't seem to get motivated. I think maybe I'll try a weekly schedule, it'll force me to try and finish up old sketches.

Under the sea!

I come up with the dumbest stuff when I'm tired. I think this has some potential for wacky adventures.

Gotta work on those speedlines; subjective motion has been a nut I've been trying to crack for years now.

Day 9

Parents just don't understand
I'm pretty terrible at drawing kids unless they're being petulant.

Other than that, I admit I've been slacking. Life's frustrations (vis-a-vis night school here) stymie efforts; art requires a certain clarity, a lucid state of mind.

Feh.

Day 5

Way too busy
Bit flustered, so just scribbled madly with a Sharpie. Looking less garbage than I thought!

This is another OC of mine. Princess Ya Xiu is being groomed to be the saviour of weird fish people, but she's not very good at her job. Super salt.

Day 4

What's that?

Working on some inking. While my brushpen died near the end, feels kind of good to give an image some crisper resolution. I have problems with clean lines, I really must improve that.

(Not-so) Daily Sketches

I've fallen off the wagon, I need to get better, so let's subject the internet to some drawing whether for good or ill.

I'm going to try ti force myself to do one daily, but this hasn't worked out so well in the past, so if I flake out, yell.

Deadlifting nerd
Here's my pet character Mei-Yu for a comic I can't seem to garner the resolve to crank through right now, deadlifting with some yoga pants. If the character's going to be in an action comic, gotta stay fit in the off-season.

Wish me luck.
